Germany to partner with Nvidia on AI development initiative - report
Investing.com -- The German government is preparing to partner with Nvidia Corporation on an artificial intelligence initiative aimed at advancing AI technology in industry, according to sources familiar with the project cited by Handelsblatt Thursday.
The collaboration has two main objectives: establishing infrastructure for physical AI applications such as robot training and autonomous vehicles, and developing competitive AI models for industrial use.
Germany plans to invest several hundred million euros in the project, which will fund computing power purchases and AI model training. Nvidia will contribute resources including engineering staff. Approximately twelve German companies are expected to join the initiative, including Siemens AG, Audi, and Black Forest Labs.
The government is scheduled to announce the partnership next week at its "Invest in Germany" summit. Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang is expected to attend the event in Berlin on Monday.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz is set to meet with Huang at a reception at Kraftwerk Berlin on Monday evening, the report said. A private discussion will be followed by a joint meeting with Mercedes Chief Executive Ola Källenius.
The initiative will expand on the Soofi project, a consortium called "Sovereign Open Source Foundation Models" that was established in September 2025 by research institutions, universities, and AI companies. The Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy has provided €20 million in funding to Soofi, which financed training of the first model on Deutsche Telekom AG's Industrial AI Cloud.
