Fed’s Bostic: Warsh faces "tall task" as next Fed chair
Investing.com -- Atlanta Federal Reserve President Raphael Bostic said on Monday that Kevin Warsh, President Donald Trump's nominee for the next Federal Reserve chair, faces a "tall task" in leading the U.S. central bank.
Speaking at the Rotary Club of Atlanta, Bostic emphasized the challenge Warsh will have in building consensus among monetary policy committee members.
"If you want to have policy enacted or go in a direction that you want, you've got to convince them to go along, and in order to do that, you've got to build a relationship with them," Bostic said. "You have to build their trust. You have to show your wisdom and guidance. And those things don't happen overnight. And so it's just a huge undertaking."
Bostic described the Fed chair position as "a very large job" and wished Warsh the best in his new role.
Regarding the economic outlook, Bostic stated that the U.S. economy appears resilient even before accounting for tax bill breaks and deregulation. He projected strong economic performance for the first half of 2026, but warned that inflation would remain high and continue to be a source of concern.
"It's premature to say inflation job is done," Bostic noted, adding that the economy is still experiencing inflation effects from tariffs.
Bostic predicted that by midyear, the economy would reach an equilibrium. He also mentioned that no one is projecting a worsening of the labor market.
