FCC allows new Chinese toy drone models into United States
Investing.com -- The U.S. Federal Communications Commission announced Tuesday it will permit new models of Chinese toy drones to enter the United States market.
In December, the FCC blocked imports of all new models of foreign-made drones and critical components, including products from China's DJI and Autel, citing unacceptable national security risks. The agency has since authorized the import of some new drone models.
The FCC based its decision on a Pentagon assessment that determined national security risks are not present in "unsophisticated, low-risk toys." These toy drones lack the "organic capabilities and features in range, endurance, sensing, payload, connectivity, and data collection and storage" that are present in traditional drones, according to the Pentagon's findings.
