Exclusive: IBM Ventures backs physics acceleration firm BQP as bookings climb 8x

Investing.com -- IBM Ventures has taken a stake in BQP, a Syracuse-based physics acceleration company, bringing the firm’s total funding to $8 million, Investing.com has learned.

The investment extends a relationship dating to 2023, when BQP joined the IBM Quantum Network.

Venn10 Capital and existing backer Monta Vista Capital also participated. The size of IBM’s commitment was not disclosed.

BQP’s software speeds up engineering physics calculations. For example, where a satellite is heading and how heat moves through a battery pack.

The company says contracted and committed revenue has risen eightfold since its 2025 seed round, with customers tripling. It has not disclosed the base those multiples run from.

QuantumNOW, BQP’s production solver, runs on customers’ existing CPUs and GPUs. A quantum-native version remains in development.

“An engineer with a deadline doesn’t care where the answer came from. They care that it arrived in time and that the physics is right. The industry spent years treating this as a hardware problem that warranted faster chips, more of them, and eventually a quantum one. But it was always a software problem,” commented Abhishek Chopra, Founder and CEO of BQP. "We spent those years earning our way into engineering workflows, so when the quantum machines are ready, nothing about how those teams work has to change."

The company’s production customers so far are in aerospace and defense.

Under an SBIR with the U.S. Space Force and SpaceWERX, the platform tracks more than 3,000 space objects in under a second, which is said to be roughly 250 times faster than Orekit, an open-source alternative.

The funding is expected to help BQP push beyond defense into electric vehicle battery thermal management work in India.
