Investing.com -- AI hardware startup Etched has secured $700 million in new funding at a $21 billion valuation, doubling its implied market capitalization from a previous capital raise finalized just weeks earlier. The investment round was led by quantitative trading firm Jane Street, which recently took delivery of the company's first operational server rack following a period of successful internal hardware validation.

The latest financing attracted a consortium of prominent backers, including Kleiner Perkins, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Blackstone, and Peter Thiel, underscoring strong institutional appetite for alternative semiconductor architectures. This capital injection positions Etched to accelerate its manufacturing pipeline as the company moves to fulfill an estimated $1 billion in existing customer contracts. This development accelerates a rapid trajectory of capital accumulation for the semiconductor challenger, following a $300 million Series C announced in late July that valued the enterprise at $10.3 billion. Against that backdrop, Etched has also disclosed an additional $800 million gathered across four previously unannounced financings, bolstered by strategic backing from VentureTech Alliance to deepen its crucial manufacturing partnership with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company.

Operationally, the firm is developing a new category of specialized hardware called frontier inference clusters, designed specifically to manage the intense computational workloads required by advanced artificial intelligence models. To execute this strategic vision, a workforce of over 400 engineers recruited from industry stalwarts like NVIDIA and Google has engineered proprietary breakthroughs in both Low Voltage Inference and Cluster Scale Memory.

By running mathematical computing blocks at less than half the voltage of traditional processors, Etched indicates its architecture can maintain substantial data throughput while avoiding the thermal throttling that limits current AI chips. This precision directly motivated Jane Street's lead investment, with the trading firm noting that the startup's unique approach delivers the reliability required to support its most demanding data center operations.

To support its transformation toward gigawatt-scale capabilities, the company has rapidly expanded its physical footprint by establishing a new factory in Taiwan alongside an 80,000-square-foot prototyping hub near its San Jose headquarters. Ultimately, these integrated supply chain and engineering initiatives are expected to serve as key catalysts as Etched navigates the broader challenge of scaling production to capture a larger share of the global artificial intelligence infrastructure market.
