EU rejects US tariff proposal over forced labour imports

Investing.com -- The European Commission rejected proposed U.S. tariffs on Wednesday, calling them unjustified after Washington cited the bloc's failure to effectively ban imports of goods made from forced labour.

The Commission said it took note of preliminary findings and proposed actions from U.S. Section 301 investigations on trade in forced labour goods. A spokesperson stated the EU considers tariffs imposed on these grounds to be unjustified.

The EU confirmed it remains on track to implement its commitments under the trade deal sealed with Washington last year. The spokesperson said implementation of the Joint Statement tariff commitments will be completed by the end of June.

The Commission said it expects the U.S. to fully respect the terms of the trade deal.
