EU aviation agency narrows flight warning over Persian Gulf

Investing.com -- The European Union Aviation Safety Agency on Monday narrowed its airspace warning for the Persian Gulf region, now advising airlines to avoid only the waters of the Persian Gulf within Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE until September 30. The agency previously recommended avoiding the entire airspace of these countries.

EASA issued the updated advisory hours after the U.S. and Iran resumed hostilities for the first time since late July.

The agency said risks over Persian Gulf waters remain high but flights necessary for arrivals and departures from airports within the affected flight information regions may be conducted with proper safety measures. EASA asked operators to exercise caution while flying over the land territory of these nations.

The agency also advised airlines not to operate over Gulf of Oman waters within Oman's Muscat flight information region.

EASA lifted its previous recommendation that airlines avoid Jordanian airspace but advised carriers to exercise caution through September 30.

The agency extended its recommendations that airlines not operate in the airspace of Iran, Iraq and Lebanon until the end of September. Flights arriving at or departing from Beirut are permitted if the approach starts from the sea or the departure ends over the sea.
