Duolingo Inc. (NASDAQ: DUOL) announced that its Explain My Answer feature is now available to all users at no cost. The feature was previously exclusive to subscribers of the company's premium service.
Explain My Answer provides personalized feedback on language exercises, offering detailed explanations about grammar and vocabulary rules when users make mistakes or complete tasks correctly. The feature analyzes the specific error made and tailors explanations based on common challenges for learners with particular native language backgrounds.
The company stated the feature includes personalized tips that account for linguistic differences between languages. For instance, when English speakers learn languages with grammatical gender systems, the explanations address concepts that may not exist in English.
The feature is currently available for courses teaching Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, and Korean. Duolingo indicated it plans to expand the feature to additional language courses in coming months.
The feature launches on iOS devices, with Android availability scheduled for later this month. Users can access the explanations by selecting the "Explain My Answer" option that appears after completing exercise questions.
The company described the move as part of its mission to develop education and make it universally available. The feature was originally introduced as part of Duolingo Max, the company's premium subscription tier.
