Daiichi Sankyo opens Toronto headquarters to fuel Canadian oncology growth

Investing.com -- Daiichi Sankyo Co Ltd ADR (OTC: DSNKY) has inaugurated its permanent Canadian headquarters in Toronto, according to a company announcement on Wednesday, signaling a strategic escalation of the Japanese pharmaceutical giant’s investment in the North American oncology market. The expansion aims to accelerate the delivery of innovative cancer therapies while strengthening the company’s operational and research footprint within Canada’s healthcare ecosystem.
The Tokyo-based drugmaker’s move underscores Ontario’s growing status as a critical hub for global life sciences and biomedical innovation. Government officials noted that the investment aligns with provincial efforts to reduce corporate overhead and attract high-value research and development projects to the region.
The company is already deeply integrated into the local medical community, supporting 18 oncology clinical trials across 43 specialized sites nationwide. These partnerships include collaborations with prestigious institutions such as the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the McGill University Health Centre.
Executive leadership emphasized that the new Toronto base is essential for navigating the complexities of the Canadian regulatory and healthcare landscape. "Establishing a permanent headquarters in Toronto represents a significant milestone in our global expansion and reflects the strong commitment of Daiichi Sankyo to patients and partners in Canada," said Masahiro Kato, Managing Director, Europe and Canada.
Local officials welcomed the pharmaceutical expansion as a victory for the provincial economy and the specialized workforce. "Daiichi Sankyo’s investment will help create good-paying jobs, strengthen our economy and reinforce Ontario’s position as a world-class hub for innovation and health research," stated Ontario Premier Doug Ford.
The opening ceremony featured traditional Japanese cultural elements to honor the firm’s heritage and symbolize a prosperous future in the market. "This opening marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Daiichi Sankyo in Canada where we are further establishing our presence in Toronto as we continue to expand access to our oncology portfolio," added Fatih Yedikardeş, Country Manager, Canada.
