Coupang business suspension unlikely after data breach, says FTC
Investing.com -- South Korea’s Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has determined that suspending Coupang’s business operations following a recent data breach would not meet legal requirements, according to Seoul Economic Daily.
The FTC shared this assessment during a meeting with a ruling party committee on Thursday. Sources familiar with the authorities’ position indicated that current laws only permit business suspension if personal information has been misused and direct consumer damage has occurred.
Regulators noted that it has not yet been confirmed whether the leaked information from Coupang has been used or disclosed to third parties. The FTC also evaluated that the risk of future property damage is low, as the compromised data did not include payment information such as credit card numbers or bank account details.
