Investing.com -- Cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase (NASDAQ: COIN) has secured regulatory approval to launch its operations in Argentina. The firm aims to help the local population, with 5 million daily crypto users, navigate financial instability and inflation. The expansion will be headed by Matías Alberti, who will lead local operations for Coinbase.
This move is part of Coinbase's larger mission to increase economic freedom globally, focusing on security, regulatory compliance, and user education. Coinbase has obtained a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) registration from Argentina’s National Securities Commission (CNV). This registration enables it to operate within the country's legal framework for virtual assets and to gradually roll out its products over the coming months.
Coinbase has appointed Matías Alberti to lead its operations in Argentina. Alberti, with his vast experience in fintech with companies like Buenbit and Clara, will play a crucial role in expanding Coinbase’s presence in Argentina. “Matías brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the local market. We’re confident in his leadership as we work to bring crypto services to millions of Argentinians,” said Fabio Plein, Director for the Americas at Coinbase.
The core of Coinbase’s global expansion is its mission to increase economic freedom, which it views as a vital tool for financial autonomy and access. This is particularly relevant in countries facing financial instability like Argentina. According to recent research commissioned by Coinbase, 87% of Argentinians believe that crypto and blockchain technology can help them achieve greater financial independence, and 76% see crypto as a solution to financial frustrations like inflation and high transaction costs.
Coinbase, as a global leader in security and compliance, provides a platform that combines cutting-edge technology and advanced fraud prevention protocols. As it launches in Argentina, Coinbase will uphold these high standards, offering users a trusted platform for crypto transactions. “Security and trust are at the core of Coinbase,” said Plein. “We are committed to offering Argentinians a platform that meets the highest industry standards while ensuring ease of use.”
A critical part of Coinbase’s strategy in Argentina will be its focus on education. To help users fully understand the benefits of cryptocurrency, Coinbase will launch local educational initiatives. “We believe an informed user is an empowered user,” Plein explained.
Coinbase's entry into Argentina over the coming months is a crucial step in its mission to increase economic freedom and drive global crypto adoption. By addressing the unique needs of the Argentine market and focusing on security, compliance, and education, Coinbase is advancing its vision of a more inclusive financial future.
