Citi Names Top Specialty Chemicals Stock To Own
Investing.com -- Citi analysts have identified their top pick in the North America specialty chemicals sector ahead of third-quarter 2026 results, highlighting Ecolab Inc. as the best-positioned company in the group despite modest cost pressures and select end-market weakness across the industry.
The investment bank updated its models for industrial gases and specialty chemical companies, making modest downward estimate revisions while maintaining that most companies can deliver on guidance at minimum. Citi pointed to strong pricing ahead of inflation and robust secular growth trends as key supporting factors.
Ecolab Inc. (ECL)
Citi moved Ecolab to its top pick across coverage, citing secular tailwinds in data center growth and visibility into strong order growth into 2027. The firm believes Ecolab's acquisition of CoolIT will continue to create a valuable platform for data center cooling and boost the organic growth profile of the company's consolidated business. Citi underwrites 10-12% growth in Life Sciences in the near term and 6-8% in Pest Control. The bank expects Ecolab to issue constructive medium-term targets on its High-Tech business at its Investor Day hosted at the Supercomputing Conference on November 17. While softer end-markets in quick-service restaurants and full-service restaurants present challenges, Citi expects these headwinds to be partially offset by growth levers in DishIQ and strong pricing execution. The firm believes Ecolab continues to execute well on its value pricing initiatives and should soon lap headwinds from pulp and paper markets.
Citi noted that as oil continues to trade at approximately $100 per barrel levels into the fourth quarter, and recent rate hikes pressure consumer sentiment, investors remain cautious on specialty chemicals. However, the bank believes companies demonstrating idiosyncratic outperformance through self-help actions, pricing ahead of costs, and continued volume growth could stand out despite overall demand levels.
