China’s Xi reiterates economic targets, opposes Taiwan independence

Investing.com -- Chinese President Xi Jinping called for efforts to meet full-year economic targets during a speech at a reception marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic on Wednesday.

Xi said China's economy has moved forward under pressure, demonstrating strong resilience and vitality. He stated the country must uphold the principle of pursuing progress while ensuring stability amid a complex international and domestic environment.

The president said China should promote continued economic development, safeguard and improve people's well-being, and work to accomplish the year's targets and tasks.

Xi also addressed the Taiwan issue, stating China should deepen cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation. "We should ... deepen cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation, resolutely combat separatist forces advocating Taiwan independence, and oppose interference by external forces," Xi said.

He added that China should "promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations and advance the great cause of national reunification."

Xi regularly attends the annual reception held before China's October 1 National Day and has frequently delivered addresses at the event.
