Investing.com -- Canada's minister responsible for trade with the United States said Thursday that private discussions between the governments of the United States, Mexico and Canada regarding the upcoming review of the USMCA trade agreement were not discouraging.

Minister Dominic LeBlanc made the remarks during a question and answer session in Toronto. Canada is preparing to begin formal trade negotiations with the U.S. as part of the review of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada free trade pact, which requires renewal by July 1, 2026.

LeBlanc said there have always been bilateral arrangements between the three countries under the trade agreement. He added that he is not pessimistic about the possibility of eventual bilateral sectoral arrangements with the U.S.
