CATL-Stellantis Spain plant to employ 1,000 Chinese workers

Investing.com -- The battery manufacturing facility being built by CATL and Stellantis in Aragon, northeastern Spain, will employ an average of 1,000 workers from China during its construction phase, Aragon's president Jorge Azcon said at a press conference on Monday.

The joint venture, called Contemporary Star Energy or CSE, plans to train 4,000 workers from Aragon to operate the plant once it reaches full capacity, Azcon said. He spoke alongside CSE chief executive Andy Wu.

The plant received all necessary approvals to complete construction, Azcon said. The first stone was laid in November 2025.

Currently, 500 people work on building the plant, including 172 workers from China who mainly fill design and management positions.

Wu will relocate to Zaragoza, the capital of Aragon, shortly.

The number of Chinese workers at the construction site will reach a maximum of 1,700, with arrival timing dependent on visa and work permit processing, Azcon said.

Production will begin in the first months of 2027, later than the previously forecast end of 2026.
