Bessent to host press conference on Iran pressure plan on Monday
Investing.com -- U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said today that he will hold a press conference on Monday to outline specific actions the government plans to take regarding Iran.
Speaking to CNBC, Bessent said the measures will amount to "coordinated economic isolation" of Iran. He stated that if countries continue to conduct business with Tehran, the U.S. will take enforcement actions against them.
"We are going to have the toughest sanctions in history," Bessent said, adding that the actions aim to "curtail Iran's ability to take action through proxies." He also stated, "We are going to collapse this regime."
When asked whether the measures will involve China, Bessent said "some conversations better to be private." He expressed confidence that all nations, including China, want to see the Strait of Hormuz reopened.
