Investing.com -- Ardelyx Inc (NASDAQ: ARDX) stock surged 13.7% on Tuesday following reports that Indian pharmaceutical company Zydus Life may acquire a controlling stake in the company or purchase key molecules from its portfolio.
According to a report from CNBC-TV18, Zydus Life is considering raising funds through a qualified institutional placement (QIP) to partially finance the potential acquisition. Ardelyx, which has a current market capitalization of $1.6 billion, has not yet responded to CNBC-TV18 requests for comment on the matter, while Zydus Life declined to comment on what it termed "speculation."
Zydus Life's board had previously approved raising up to ₹5,000 crore through a QIP on November 6, 2025. During its second quarter earnings call, the company indicated that the primary objective of the QIP was to reduce existing debt, but also mentioned exploring opportunities in the U.S. specialty business, particularly in gastroenterology, central nervous system, and cardiology spaces.
Ardelyx has two commercial products approved in the U.S. market - IBSRELA (tenapanor), a prescription medication for adults with irritable bowel syndrome with constipation, and XYPHOZAH (tenapanor) for adults with chronic kidney disease. On January 8, 2026, Ardelyx projected that IBSRELA would generate $410-430 million in revenue in 2026, with expectations for that figure to reach $1 billion by 2029.
The potential acquisition could strengthen Zydus Life's presence in the U.S. pharmaceutical market, particularly in specialty therapeutic areas where Ardelyx has established commercial products.
