Investing.com -- Apple on Wednesday launched a new MacBook Pro lineup featuring OLED displays and touch capabilities for the first time on Mac computers. The company's new CEO John Ternus presented the products at an event.

The MacBook Pro now includes what Apple calls the PROLED XDR Display, using tandem OLED technology. The display offers up to 2,000 nits peak brightness for both HDR and SDR content, along with a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The screen supports a 120Hz variable refresh rate and covers both P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces.

Apple added touch functionality to the MacBook Pro for the first time. Users can interact with the display through gestures like scrolling, pinching to zoom, and dragging content between windows. The touch sensor is integrated directly into the display panel.

The new models come in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes, with the 14-inch version weighing 3 pounds and the 16-inch model weighing 4 pounds. Both models are thinner than previous versions, enabled by the more efficient OLED display stack. The 16-inch display measures 16.3 inches, while the 14-inch model offers a 14.2-inch screen.

The laptops feature Apple's M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with options for up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Battery life reaches up to 24 hours. The audio system includes six speakers with redesigned woofers that deliver 50 percent deeper bass.

The Dynamic Island interface now appears on Mac, housing Spotlight search, Live Activities, and Siri AI features. The laptops include three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe charging, and a headphone jack. The devices support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 connectivity.

The new MacBook Pro runs macOS 27 Golden Gate, which includes Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features. The operating system supports touch interactions throughout its interface.

Pre-orders begin today, with availability starting November 6. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro starts at $2,899, while the 16-inch model starts at $3,399. Models with M5 Max chips start at $4,499 for the 14-inch version and $4,799 for the 16-inch version. Education pricing offers discounts on all models.

"The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is a monumental step forward for the Mac," said Johny Srouji, Apple's chief hardware officer. "PROLED XDR is the world's best laptop display. It pairs state-of-the-art tandem OLED technology with advanced algorithms in our display engine to deliver the kind of visual fidelity pros have been dreaming of."

The laptops include 55 percent recycled content overall, with 100 percent recycled aluminum in the enclosure and 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery. Manufacturing uses 45 percent renewable electricity across the supply chain.

Third-party applications including Notion, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Office apps, Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, Blender, and Maxon Cinema 4D will support the touch features.
