Apple loses UK lawsuit over App Store commission charges
Investing.com -- Apple has lost a lawsuit in London that accused the tech giant of abusing its dominant market position by charging app developers a 30% commission through its App Store.
The Competition Appeal Tribunal ruled against Apple following a trial earlier this year. The lawsuit was brought on behalf of approximately 20 million iPhone and iPad users in the United Kingdom and is valued at up to £1.5 billion ($2.01 billion).
This case marks the first mass lawsuit against a major technology company to reach trial under Britain’s emerging class action-style legal regime. Several other similar cases are pending in the UK legal system.
