Anduril wins $1.8B U.S. Army contract to scale next-gen command platform
Investing.com -- Defense technology provider Anduril Industries has secured a major U.S. Army contract worth up to $1.8 billion over five years to scale its Next-Generation Command and Control (NGC2) system across military operations. The award begins with an initial $162.8 million base period to deploy the software-driven architecture, starting with America’s I Corps in the Pacific theater.
The contract marks a critical transition for the defense program, moving NGC2 from division-level field prototyping to full operational deployment. Under the framework, Anduril's proprietary Lattice software serves as the distributed common data layer, integrating disparate sensors, weapons systems, and warfighting applications into a unified operational network.
The defense contractor previously demonstrated the capabilities of the platform during rigorous multi-service field exercises with the 4th Infantry Division. During these trials, the common architecture connected more than 2,500 end-user devices and reduced artillery firing timelines by 90% compared to legacy systems, while maintaining connectivity under degraded communications environments.
Scaling the platform to I Corps poses a significantly more complex operational challenge given the vast geographic dispersion of forces across the Indo-Pacific region. Units operating across thousands of miles will rely on the software baseline to maintain real-time decision-making and data sharing, even when communications with higher headquarters are disrupted or denied.
From a strategic perspective, the program reflects the military's broader push toward open-architecture software solutions over monolithic, single-vendor hardware systems. By decoupling the underlying data layer from individual warfighting applications, the Army retains the flexibility to rapidly integrate emerging third-party capabilities and commercial artificial intelligence tools without re-architecting its broader command-and-control stack.
