American Airlines rises after narrowing Q1 loss outlook
Investing.com -- American Airlines Group shares climbed 3.5% Thursday after the carrier issued a more optimistic first quarter forecast, projecting an adjusted loss per share at the low end of its previously announced range.
The Fort Worth, Texas-based airline said it expects an adjusted loss per share between 10 cents and 50 cents for the first quarter, with results now anticipated at the low end of that range. The forecast compares favorably to the Bloomberg consensus estimate of a 44-cent loss per share.
American Airlines raised its first quarter revenue outlook, now projecting total revenue growth of more than 10%, up from its prior guidance of approximately 7% to 10%. The company expects available seat miles to increase about 3% to 4% during the period.
The airline also updated its fuel cost assumptions, now expecting jet fuel prices of $2.75 per gallon in the first quarter.
