Investing.com -- American Airlines Group Inc. Chief Executive Officer Robert Isom is facing mounting pressure from pilots who blame him for the airline's inability to match the profitability of competitors Delta Air Lines Inc. and United Airlines Holdings Inc.
The Allied Pilots Association (APA), representing approximately 16,000 pilots, is considering holding a vote of no confidence in Isom and his executive team. This vote could happen as early as Friday, according to APA spokesman Dennis Tajer.
In a letter to members sent late Monday, APA President Nick Silva wrote: "The company under this management team appears to lack the tools, creativity, leadership and willpower to return American to prominence among its peers."
The potential vote follows what the union described as inadequate preparations for last month's winter storm and disappointing financial performance from the airline.
American Airlines' stock has declined 8.6% since the beginning of 2026, underperforming both United and Delta. This continues a downward trend after a 12% drop in 2025, raising questions among investors about whether management, particularly Isom, can turn the company around.
Isom has served as CEO since March 2022, after working as the airline's president for about six years. During a recent earnings call, he defended the company's financial position, stating: "Our balance sheet is the strongest it's been in years."
