Amazon increases Louisiana data center investment to $18 billion

Investing.com -- Amazon announced today it is expanding its planned investment in northwest Louisiana to $18 billion, adding a third data center campus in Shreveport. The company originally announced a $12 billion investment in February.

The expanded commitment includes three planned campuses across Caddo and Bossier Parishes. When fully built, the facilities are expected to create up to 750 full-time data center jobs and support 2,500 additional positions in the broader community. These roles include electricians, HVAC technicians, project engineers, network specialists, operations managers, and security specialists.

Amazon is partnering with STACK Infrastructure, which will develop and own all three campuses. STACK expects the three planned campuses will support up to 2,250 construction jobs.

The company said it will fully fund the infrastructure needed to power its operations at no cost to local ratepayers. Amazon is working with Southwestern Electric Power Company to pay 100% of the costs associated with new energy infrastructure and grid upgrades required to serve its data centers.

Amazon plans to invest up to $400 million in public water infrastructure to support all three campuses. The company said all necessary water and wastewater infrastructure improvements will be funded by Amazon, not ratepayers.

The company's data centers use air cooling for most of the year and water only during the hottest days, less than 13% of the year in the region. Amazon now uses water to cool incoming air only when temperatures exceed roughly 85 degrees Fahrenheit.

Amazon has invested in solar energy projects in Louisiana, bringing up to 200 megawatts of new carbon-free energy onto the grid. The company said this is enough to power approximately 44,000 Louisiana homes.

Amazon awarded nearly $500,000 to 46 local nonprofits, schools, and community members through the Amazon Northwest Louisiana Community Fund. The company said it will soon launch new workforce development programs with local educational institutions and technical colleges.

Since 2010, Amazon has invested over $6 billion in Louisiana, including infrastructure and compensation to employees. The company opened an advanced robotics fulfillment center in the Shreveport area in 2024 employing over 2,000 people, and a delivery station in 2025.
