eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) is expanding its same-day delivery service to local merchants as it moves to compete more wholly with Amazon.com (Nasdaq: AMZN).
According to Crain's, eBay's first market for same-day deliveries for merchants will be Brooklyn, New York. The company already has 80 merchants on board for the service.
Delivery costs would be $5 for the customer, but free for the merchant.
eBay's same-day delivery service is in six markets, but has generally been limited to larger retailers like Best Buy and Toys 'R' Us.
