YouTube: One Billion Strong and Growing (GOOG)

March 21, 2013 8:37 AM EDT
According to a blog post made Wednesday, Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) said its video hosting site YouTube has one billion unique monthly users.

Here's how Google breaks-down what one billion looks like:
  • Nearly one out of every two people on the Internet visits YouTube.
  • Our monthly viewership is the equivalent of roughly ten Super Bowl audiences.
  • If YouTube were a country, we’d be the third largest in the world after China and India.
  • PSY and Madonna would have to repeat their Madison Square Garden performance in front of a packed house 200,000 more times. That’s a lot of Gangnam Style!(Editor's note: But still not nearly enough.)

So, the stats are impressive, but there are always competitors looming. For example, Yahoo! (Nasdaq: YHOO) was rumored just yesterday to be in talks to acquire video site Dailymotion. Vimeo, with its high-resolution offerings, is also offering another outlet for artists to show their work.

Google will certainly be able to draw more ad revs as expansion continues. The main question we have is when will the users growth hit a peak.

Shares of Google are flat in early trading.
