Shares of Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) are surprisingly higher on the session amid announcing a new product earlier.
Ahead of the bell, Apple unveiled its new, 128-gigabyte, Retina display-equipped iPad 4! Apple reminds you that "the 128GB iPad with Wi-Fi and iPad with Wi-Fi + Cellular models provide twice the storage capacity of the 64GB models to hold even more valuable content including photos, documents, projects, presentations, books, movies, TV shows, music and apps."
The latest move might call into question Apple's tactics to capture more revenue. With a new iPhone, iPad, and iPad mini being made available late in 2012, how many more will be willing to shell out another $799 (base price) for the 128-GB iPad 4? Some have also speculated that there would be an iPad refresh in March or April, making the February 5th sales date rather close if those plans come to fruition.
Just how much much more can Apple squeeze its current customer base, anyway? No doubt, sentiment behind Apple has been waning over the last few months as can be seen in the 30 percent-plus drop in Apple's share price. Today, Apple is up about 1 percent Tuesday.
