The sophisticated cyber attack that led to the end of Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) cooperating with regulations in China, may have been orchestrated by the nation's government.
Leaked U.S. diplomatic cables, gathered by the WikiLeaks website, showed that China started putting increased pressure on Google over the years and may have stepped up intimidation efforts last year by asking state-owned telecommunications companies to stop working with the world's No. 1 search engine company.
The names of the sources on some of the cables were redacted, making the information difficult to verify.
The situation with Google leaving China, the world's largest Internet market, has led to the rise of Baidu Inc. (NASDAQ: BIDU) as an Internet giant.
