According to a CNN Money March Madness Stock Poll, Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is the number one stock investors want to own.
Results will be issued Monday, but the final two are Apple and Exxon (NYSE: XOM). Currently, Apple commands about 83 percent of the votes, no surprise there, but the curious part comes in the early rounds of voting.
In the first round, 7 percent of voters picked Zynga (Nasdaq: ZNGA) over Apple. Take a moment to think about that for a second. Maybe it's a play on a rebound for the social gaming giant, which is about as diversified in revenue streams as a koala bear's diet (hint: koala's only eat basically one thing: eucalyptus leaves). Or, maybe its hope that they will break into online gambling once it becomes legal.
What may be as curious is about 12 percent of submitters taking First Solar (Nasdaq: FSLR) over Exxon.
Moving along the days, voting began to tighten up. However, in the final four, Apple got 85 percent of votes to Wal-mart's (NYSE: WMT) 15 percent. Yikes.
Apple is indicated higher Friday morning.
