Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) may have a hit on its hands with its latest tablet offering.
According to various reports, Microsoft might be struggling to keep its Surface 2 tablet on the shelves this holiday season. Microsoft-News said today that the Surface 2 and 64-, 256-, and 512-GB versions of the Surface Pro 2 are sold out on Microsoft's online store. The same goes for Wal-mart's (NYSE: WMT) online store, though the retailer (like Microsoft) had the 128-GB version of the Surface Pro 2 ready to sell.
Mashable called to various Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) locations in New York City, Portland, Austin, and Oregon, largely getting the response that there were none in stock.
Microsoft also issued a generic statement to Neowin, saying: Our primary goal is to get Surface 2, Surface Pro 2 and new Surface accessories into the hands of all people who want the most productive tablets on the planet. The public response to date has been exciting to see and, for those eager to buy, we recommend they go to MicrosoftStore.com, Microsoft Retail Stores and third-party retailers for availability.
This could be good for Microsoft investors. Sales of a key device ramping for Microsoft will be a boon as a new CEO takes the lead and the company pushed further into the consumer electronics arena.
Shares of Microsoft are down about 1 percent Thursday.
