Walt Disney (DIS) Higher On Strong Q2 Results

Shares of Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS) are nearly 2% higher after reporting better-than-expected Q2 results.

Walt Disney reported Q2 EPS of $0.58, 7 cents better than the analyst estimate of $0.51. Revenues for the quarter were $8.71 billion, versus the consensus of $8.47 billion.

Operating income at Cable Networks increased 14% to $1.1 billion for the quarter primarily due to growth at ESPN and, to a lesser extent, higher income from our cable equity investments.

Operating income at Broadcasting increased 17% to $223 million for the quarter primarily due to the strong performance of ABC Studios productions in international markets, led by Grey's Anatomy and Lost.

Parks and Resorts revenues for the quarter increased 11% to $2.7 billion and segment operating income increased 33% to $339 million. Operating income growth was due to improved results in the company's domestic businesses and at Disneyland Resort Paris.

Studio Entertainment revenues for the quarter increased 18% to $1.8 billion.

Consumer Products revenues for the quarter increased 10% to $551 million.
