Nokia (NYSE: NOK) is on watch today as Verizon (NYSE: VZ) plans to launch its latest smartphone in the U.S.
TechCrunch noted that Verizon Wireless will begin carrying the Nokia Icon, a smartphone with a 5-inch screen, 20-megapixel camera, 2420-mAh battery, and quad-core processor. Pricing isn't clear, but expectations are the device will run from $100 to $200.
While Windows Phone hasn't been an onslaught to Android or iOS, the devices have seen a pickup in market share over the last year. Introduction of a lower-cost device, particularly one from Nokia, might change a few more users minds over the next few months.
There wasn't speculation over when the device would be released, but given that it is already on teh Verizon website, it should be within the next few weeks.
Shares of Nokia are up 0.4 percent.
