Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is looking to expand its mobile business and might be able to do so cheaper than expected.
The Globa & Mail today noted that Verizon may start offering wireless service in Canada, bringing a fourth mobile operator to the Great White North.
Verizion is said to have held talks with Wind Mobile investors, but discussions are still in early stages. Verizon could potential take over the struggling wireless provider and then place bids on spectrum. Aside from Wind, Mobilicity might be another takeover option for Verizon.
Verizon could then roll-out faster wireless technology while undercutting incumbent players on pricing.
Other potential entrants include AT&T (NYSE: T), Vodafone's (Nasdaq: VOD) U.S. unit, and Telenor Group.
Verizon is up about 1 percent at the start.
