At a conference today, Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ) said the slowdown in the economy is having little negative impact on their business, which contrasts with statements earlier in the week from competitor AT&T (NYSE: T).
Verizon President Denny Strigel said the slowdown isn't hunting revenues from companies or home-phone customers.
Strigel said his company is seeing more of a competitive impact, versus an economic one. Verizon has been aggressively building out their fiber network, FiOS, that offers a package for television, Internet and phone.
On Tuesday, AT&T said it is facing softness in its consumer business due to a slowing economy. AT&T said it is disconnecting more home-phone and high-speed Internet customers for not paying their bills.
The AT&T news sent recession fears throughout the market.
