Verizon (VZ) Exec All But Confirms 4G iPhone (AAPL)

March 14, 2012 10:22 AM EDT
Either the next iPhone is going to run on 4G networks... or Verizon will no longer carry the device.

Verizon (NYSE: VZ) Tech Chief David Small spoke with Dow Jones Tuesday, explaining how Verizon's recent 4G outage was caused by network updates as the carrier is expanding coverage of the next-generation service.

In addition, Small mentioned Verizon plans to cover 260 million Americans by the end of 2012. This is up from a previous estimate of 250 million users.

However, BGR noted a slip by Small. Evidently, the executive also said Verizon only plans to release 4G LTE-equipped devices through the end of 2012.

With Verizon and Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) unlikely to call it Splitsvlle, Apple must be slipping its next iPhone a 4G mickey.

Shares of Apple are up 2.4 percent to $581.65 Wednesday morning.
