United (UAL) to Honor $0 Fares

United Continental (NYSE: UAL) is ticking higher Friday afternoon following news that the airline will, in fact, honor errorenous fares sold Thursday.
Following sales of $0 fare tickets, a spokesperson for United affirmed that those would be valid. It wasn't made clear how many fares were sold at that price.
Thursday, a glitch in United's system caused the $0 fares to appear for two hours. The company subsequently shut down its website to fix the glitch and said that the fares weren't offered through other websites.
According to Bloomberg, United's booking engine was issuing fares and applying only the September 11th federal security fee to transactions and not taxes. Those tickets were issued as reward tickets for frequent flier miles, which don't include taxes, one market observer said. The company may have been running a test on its system when the glitch hit.
Shares of United are up 1.7 percent.
