In the world of athletic apparel, Under Armour (NYSE: UA) is a brute. Lululemon (Nasdaq: LULU), on the other hand, is feminine, colorful, and cheerful. Despite differences, both companies are rising stars in the space, and if managers at under Armour have their way, it too will be called colorful and cheerful, and hopefully its favorite new target market, woman, will take notice.
Tomorrow the company will open a new test store in Baltimore, and it will likely take a page from Lulu in the process. Watchers say efforts to lighten its image are a good start if it wants attract more female customers, and investors will without a doubt be keeping tabs on Under Armour's success in this area, viewed as key to fueling growth in the quarters ahead.
Shares of UA are indicated to open flat at $48.90.
