Etsy (Nasdaq: ETSY) could be testing a same-day delivery service in New York as the hand-crafted goods marketplace looks to draw in more shoppers.
Re/code said that Etsy has partnered with delivery startup Postmates on the initiative. The company will test same- and next-day delivery service -- dubbed "Etsy ASAP" -- in the NYC market.
Notably, Etsy ASAP is a pilot program which will begin starting this fall and run through the holiday season.
One spokesperson for Etsy commented, We hear from sellers that they get constant requests from buyers for getting stuff really fast ... They feel they are in a bind and actually it's technologically almost impossible" for them to get something to buyers the day or day after it's ordered. This gives them a way to do it really easily on Etsy
Sellers will be able to offer the express delivery service and tell Postmates when they'd like the products picked up. Buyers will need to pay $20 for the service.
Shares of Etsy are flat Friday.
