Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) is working on new phones with screens as large as 6 inches, according to reports in the WSJ, citing sources. If so, it would confirm rumors dating as far back as last year. Currently, Apple phones feature a 4 inch screen - small relative to phones offered by rival Samsung.

Apple will unveil both a high-end and a cheaper version of the iPhone next week, said the report. Both of these phones will likely have 4 inch screens, leaving Apple behind the curve when it comes to smartphone trends, according to some watchers.

At 6 inches, Apples next iPhone could be the largest by the time it goes to market, topping Samsung's 5.7 incher - unless of course Samsung beats it to the market with a screen that is 6.25 inches.

If this reminds you of the '7-minute abs scene' from 'There's Something About Mary', you are not alone.

"No! No, no, not 6! I said 7. Nobody's comin' up with 6. Who works out in 6 minutes? You won't even get your heart goin, not even a mouse on a wheel . . . 7's the key number here. Think about it. 7-Elevens. 7 dwarves. 7, man, that's the number. 7 chipmunks twirlin' on a branch, eatin' lots of sunflowers on my uncle's ranch."
