Twitter Gets Porn-Hacked
Twitter was hacked with a malicious retweeting code on Tuesday morning, impacting thousands of users on the social media and micro-blogging Web site, and redirecting them to images of hardcore pornography. The company has since said that it has identified the hack and it has been patched.
"The exploit is fully patched," a spokesman for Twitter said around 9:50 a.m. on Tuesday. “It should now be fully patched and is no longer exploitable."
The attack was broad and affected tens or hundreds of thousands of Twitter users, redirecting them to pornographic Web sites not by clicking, but with a simple rollover of a mouse.
"It's pretty widespread and has left some major egg on the face of Twitter," Sophos senior technology consultant Graham Cluley told FoxNews.com. Sophos is a security analysis firm.
"It looks like many users are currently using the flaw for fun and games, but there is obviously the potential for cybercriminals to redirect users to third-party websites containing malicious code," Cluley added.
