Twitter (NYSE: TWTR) is planning to expand on its current 140-character limit with tweets, Re/code said on Tuesday.
UPDATE - The updated platform will allow users to publish longer-form posts to the service. What the final product will be is still unclear.
While the 140-character limit has been scrutinized by the public in the past, sources said the topic is one internally discussed. The company lifted its character limit on private messages last June and other actions under consideration are removing links and user handles from counting towards the total count.
Interim CEO Jack Dorsey is said to be supportive of the change.
Shares of Twitter are up about 1 percent in afternoon trading.
