Twelve Things for Apple (AAPL) in 2012

Here's is a list of 12 things that will likely happen with Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) next year. 1-6 are near sure bets, while the others are more speculative in nature.

Near sure bets...

1. Shares will surpass $500: The stock currently sits at $405, so this would suggest 23 percent upside

2. EPS will top $10 in at least one quarter: The consensus for the December quarter (results due around 1/18/12) is $9.83. The company could easily pass this milestone in this quarter.

3. Revenue will top $40 billion in at least one quarter: The consensus for the December quarter is $38.2 billion. The company could easily pass this milestone in this quarter.

4. Cash hoard will surpass $100 billion: With $80+ billion in cash now, this will should be an easy feat to achieve. How high will it go? Maybe $150 billion.

5. iPhone 5 will be introduced: Speculation suggests a Fall-2012 iPhone 5 launch.

6. iPad 3 will be introduced: Speculation suggests a first-half 2012 iPad 3 launch.

More speculative....

7. Special cash distribution to shareholders: When cash level hits the $100 billion mark (coming soon), look for Apple to announce a dividend to shareholders. This could be one-time in nature or an ongoing dividend policy.

8. iTV will be introduced: Speculation suggests a first-half 2012 iTV launch.

9. Siri will be opened up to third-party app developers: This could be huge...

10. Make its largest acquisition ever: Look for something possibly in media or the cloud.

11. Expand in search: Maybe Apple even drops Google as the default search engine.

12. Big move into social: Maybe a social iTunes, or a partnership with Facebook.
