Toyota (TM) To Extend Shutdown of Some European Plant Ops

Toyota (NYSE: TM) is said to halt production of vehicles in Europe for the next 12 days due to impuissant demand in the region after a series of global safety recalls.
The halt comes coincidentally with planned production adjustments in the States for up to two weeks in March and April, to reduce inventory on the heels of the recent recalls.
Toyota will halt production from April 6 - 9, 2010, at its plant in France, where it manufactures the compact Yaris, and also plans to halt output at the plant sometime in late April.
The halt in the U.K. also comes as the company makes adjustments to produce the Auris hatchback later this year.
A spokesman from the company also noted that demand may also fall at the end of the car scrappage scheme later this month in the U.K.
