TiVo, Inc. (Nasdaq: TIVO) is up early following the introduction of new set-top boxes (STBs) that the company hopes will draw in more users over the coming months.
The TiVo Roamio is the latest addition to the STB lineup for TiVo. Unlike previous STBs, the new version is equipped with WiFi capability, has more storage space, can record up to six shows at once, and will be able to stream shows to mobile devices, the company said.
According to TiVo,
About 1 million customers owned a TiVo STB though the end of April 2013, which was down 14 percent from July 2011. TiVo also licenses the technology to companies like DirecTV (Nasdaq: DTV) and Comcast (Nasdaq: CMCSA), though it draws in less revenue from those agreements.
Shares of TiVo are up 1.6 percent.
