This is Apple's (AAPL) Number to "Beat" Tonight...

All eyes will be on Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) when it reports fourth quarter results after the close tonight.

Wall Street is looking for EPS of $7.28. But this is not the number to "beat."

The iPhone and iPad maker has crushed the EPS consensus by an average of 22 percent over the past four quarter, according to data at EPS Insider.

Grossing-up for this 22 percent "beat" rate gets you to a number of $8.88. We believe this is the number to beat.

Anything less than $8.88 might be considered a disappointment, although it should be noted that in last year's Q4, Apple only beat by 14 percent.

On the revenue side, Apple has beat by about 12 percent over the past year. This would get you to a number of $32.984 billion.

Estimze, a new service that uses social media to come up with the EPS consensus, sees EPS of $7.81 and revenues of $30.11 billion. This service is still in beta.
