TheStreet.com (TSCM) Invests in Relatively New Site, Geezeo

TheStreet.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: TSCM) made an investment in lightly-visited site, Geezeo. Geezeo combines free, easy-to-use online personal finance tools with the power of social networking to help consumers achieve their financial goals.

Geezeo's traffic appears to be quite low. In fact, if you compare StreetInsider's traffic to Geezeo on compete.com, you'll see Geezeo's traffic is rather low. We don't believe compete.com is totally accurate, we prefer quantcast numbers (as long as, you insert the quantcast code on your site), but Geezeo has an even lower rank on quantcast.

Perhaps, Geezeo's business model is not based on traffic and it is synergistic with TheStreet.com (Nasdaq: TSCM) because Geezeo has relationships with banks, similar to TheStreet.com's BankingMyWay product. Although, I think TSCM made the investment based on the social networking potential and helping consumers save more money.

However, TheStreet.com paid a hefty price for a site that apparently doesn't receive much traffic and was founded only last year. TheStreet is paying $1.2M for a 13% interest in Geezeo, giving it a $12M valuation (TSCM has an option to buy the entire site for $12M during the next year).

We will just have to wait and see how this one turns out.
