Tesla (TSLA) Sends Out Invitations for Model 3 Event

March 18, 2016 10:23 AM EDT

Tesla Motors (Nasdaq: TSLA) has begun sending out invitations for its Model 3 event at the end of this month.

Electrek.co noted today that 650 random Tesla drivers were selected to attend the event. The embedded invitation shows the logo of the Model 3 looking like three horizontal bars, or more like an E. Tesla originally wanted to name the upcoming vehicle the Model E, but ran into trademark trouble with Ford. Logos are a different matter, it seems.

Model 3 speculation, according to Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry:

  • Model 3 will share the same design language of "relatively larger windshield" like Model X has, and what Apple Car is also very likely to have
  • The Silhouette of Model 3, in the invite does not reveal much ... however, based on monitoring TSLA since 2009, Model 3 will be anything, but Ordinary ...
  • ....and as TSLA has done in the past...Model 3 will very likely push the Auto Industry back to the design board

Model 3 reservations will open in Tesla stores on March 31 at 10am PST, as well as online immediately when the event begins.

Shares of Tesla are up over 1.5 percent Friday.
