Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) continues to rocket higher Tuesday as traders focus the White House petition which looks like it will reach its goal of 100,000 signatures, as soon as today. Shares are up 3% early to $120.66.
The petition is to allow Tesla Motors to sell directly to consumers in all 50 states. According to the petition, state legislators are trying to unfairly protect automobile dealers in their states from competition.
As of 9:39AM ET the petition has 91,866 signatures. The petition has until July 5 to get the remaining 8,134 to reach the 100,000 goal.
If a petition gets enough support, White House staff will review it, ensure it's sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response.
