Starbucks (Nasdaq: SBUX) will close all of its 23 La Boulange bakeries by the end of September, just three years after acquiring the chain's parent company, Bay Bread LLC.
Instead, Starbucks will work to integrate the brand more in house.
The WSJ cites Starbucks' group president Cliff Burrows in saying that the La Boulange locations, which were scattered mostly around San Francisco, became more of a distraction for the company.
Starbucks purchased Bay Bread in 2012 for $100 million.
Shares of Starbucks are slightly lower early Wednesday.
