Starbucks (Nasdaq: SBUX) is taking a firmer stand against what some would call one of the great pleasures of life: coffee and a cigarette.
The LA Times noted Friday that, starting June 1st, Starbucks will ban smoking within 25 feet of a U.S. or Canadian company-owned store. Like many restaurants, Starbucks has prohibited smoking inside of its locations, but the new move comes from "a sense of responsibility to provide customers with a safe and healthy environment," according to one company spokesperson.
Currently, there are about 7,000 company-owned locations.
The rule is flexible depending on lease size and physical restriction.
Starbucks is down 0.3 percent late Friday.
