Let's just say, John Lennon would be proud.
According to a blog post by CEO Howard Schultz, Starbucks (Nasdaq: SBUX) employees in Washington D.C.-area stores are being told to write "Come Together" on each cup served between Wednesday and Friday. Given the large quantities of lawmakers working in the area, Schultz is hoping this will strike a chord with some and they'll get some legislation done over the impending fiscal cliff.
Schultz said, "Never before have we asked our partners to write something specific on our customers’ cups. These words express the optimism that’s core to the holiday season, to our country’s heritage, and to our Starbucks Mission. This effort is also being amplified by our friends at AOL and Patch who are joining us in activating their hyper-localnetwork of websites to share the “Come Together” message."
Lawmakers have until the end of the year to come up with a solution that will avert over $600 billion in tax hikes and spending cuts. So far, it appears like the two sides are further apart than ever heading into the final days.
Starbucks is flat in early trading Wednesday.
